"E, I heard that you asked Daddy for some milk when you woke up last night."
"Yeah," she said with a laugh, "I drank gallons!"

Thought of the Day
Surly + dramatic = three year old (and I thought it would start later, say, after she was 5?)

Observation of the Day
It appears that E has internalized the fine art of competition (or comparison). For the first time, she said,"I did better than you!" when playing a game with me. I found this all to be a bit sad.

Quote of the Day
E started to eat oatmeal for breakfast and then said, "No, I want cereal for breakfast."
"What kind of cereal do you want?"
"The taste-better kind."

Quotes of the Day, from K then E
"Mom, you can sing me to sleep - and it's lovely - but I make no promises about staying asleep. Six minutes seems reasonable to me."
"I'm going to watch Daddy (cut the grass). I'm going to keep my eye on him."
"I love you very much, Babe. But I have to do some cooking work right now. I'm cuddling you. After this we need to wash our hands."

Quotes of the Day, from E
"Andy is a stinker-upper. He's an expert at that."
"I'm going to call Daddy on the cell phone."
"Hello, Daddy. So I just wanted to call and let you know that my sister stopped yelling for the day."
"You have to help me drive over there," E said when we were getting ready to visit her friend, L.

Observations of the Day
Baking chocolate is, in fact, edible. You only need to cover it sufficiently with cream cheese frosting.
You know, when you're in a pinch.
E and K have made a non-verbal pact (one of them is four months old - it would have to be non-verbal, right?): they may leave Mommy unattended for no more than 15 minutes during daylight hours; they are worried that Mommy might get lonely. Or run away. (And nobody told me this - I had to figure it out myself.)

Quote of the Day, from E
E was getting ready to brush her teeth, and also wanted to help Mommy with her toothpaste.
She said, "I'm going to give you a lot because you have a BIIIIIG mouth."
Then, a big smile.
"Daddy has a big mouth, too."
"That makes two!"

My Little Girl is Growing Up
This afternoon, Mommy and K were sitting in Daddy's recliner. As soon as we sat in the chair, E came rushing over and said to me, "You need to move K." Since K was born four months ago, E has vied for as much Mommy lap space as possible, most often when K was there, too. I said to E, "Let's all move to the couch. There is more space over there." E looked at me and nodded. After K and Mommy moved across the room to the loveseat, E climbed up on Daddy's chair. She sat in the chair and wore an enormous grin. I said, "Oh, just you in Daddy's chair?" She laughed, "Yes! Just Me!!"

Let Me Tell You About My Week
So, about my week. Here's the short version: I paid for groceries and left them in the store twice (that is, on two different occasions), locked myself out of the house, drove without my wallet and license, and cared for two sick kids. Oh, and when E had one diaper left, I bought a case (n=156) of the wrong diapers, despite the fact that she's been wearing the same kind since she was oh, I don't know, three months old. At the store where we finally bought the right diapers, E was running around for about ten minutes before I noticed she wasn't wearing shoes.
Here's the long version: oh yeah, you really don't need to hear about that.

Quotes of the Day, from E
- "He's two months, seven (years old). He's a big guy." (of Daddy)
- "Can I suck my toe?" (Yes) "Can I chew it?" (No)
- "I'm going to try on Daddy's new shoes for him. I'm going to read the directions about it."
- "Can I have a lolli? Can you say 'Yes'?"
- "Thank you very much for my lunch, Mommy."
