E announced: "I'm going to call K ' a cookie.'"
I said, "Ok, but why a cookie?"
"Mrs. C (E's teacher) says that C (E's classmate) is a cookie. A tough cookie."
"Oh! I wonder what that means, 'a tough cookie.'"
E said, "I don't know," and then, "what does tough cookie mean?"
I replied, "You know, E, it means different things to different people. (I learned this response from my clever friend, Ms. Vikki.) I'm not sure what Mrs. C means when she says it. Maybe we can ask her." (!!)
